Candid, relaxed Austin family photography focused on capturing little moments and big personalities.

AUSTIN FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

Families grow and change constantly. The days are long, but the years are short. Before you know it, that 18-inch newborn is now three feet tall, running around your feet. In a blink, a toddler is graduating high school, off to create their own adventures.

AUSTIN Family photography is so much more than Christmas card photos, it’s meant to document the in-between moments.

If you look at my family photography, you’ll see pure fun. I let kids be kids, embrace the big personalities, and capture your family the way you are.

There are the good old days you will think of once the house goes quiet, and I would love to document all these precious moments for you. If it is a home lifestyle shoot to remember how your life looked and felt at this time or going to your favorite place and doing a shoot there, I would love to work with you to plan the custom shoot to capture your family perfectly.

Each age is beautiful and unique in its own way.

Before you know it, you will be dropping your once little ones off at college and asking where the time went.

Childhood is made of messy hair, scraped knees, primary-colored pj’s, princess dresses, rain boots, belly laughs, and so many cuddles. Or you might be in the rolling eyes, too cool for you phase, but they secretly love that you give them hugs and check in on them.

“We get our family photos taken by Paige, and not only is she a literal angel for putting up with a rowdy toddler, but the pictures are beyond our expectations!”

We only offer mini sessions once a year in the fall, timed for holiday card photos. Otherwise, our minimum session is 1-hour (trust me - it takes that long to get kids comfortable in front of the camera, and increases the likelihood of getting that winning “all looking at the camera” photo vs. a mini session.

BACK TO ALL QUESTIONS

I’ve been a photographer since 2012! I first focused solely on portraits (think senior photos!), then began working as a wedding photographer’s assistant and second photographer where I quickly fell in love with weddings. I shot my first wedding in 2014 and never looked back!I'm a San Francisco Bay Area & Austin, TX wedding photographer, here to make you feel like your best self while getting you down that aisle to your other half.

How long have you been a photographer?

BACK TO ALL QUESTIONS

Family photos and portraits are typically scheduled on weekdays. Our weekends are often dedicated to shooting weddings or spending precious time with our families. The most beautiful outdoor locations tend to be crowded on weekends, which may not be ideal for our purposes. To fully enjoy your session, consider taking a half day off work or scheduling an "appointment". We recommend scheduling your session asap, as our calendar fills up quickly. During peak seasons like spring and fall, we book anywhere from 4-12 weeks in advance. In the event of rain, we will work with you to find a new date that suits both of our schedules. If rescheduling isn't an option, we suggest booking an indoor location with good natural light as a backup plan.

What days to you offer family photos or portrait sessions?

BACK TO ALL QUESTIONS

Please note: Rescheduling is left to the discretion of the photographer, and will only be rescheduled if photography is unable to take place. We are unable to accommodate reschedules for weather preference - i.e. cold (unless below freezing), fog, wind, cloudiness, etc

We average 50-75 images per hour that we’re shooting. We deliver all photos taken except for duplicates, blinks, test shots, etc. We love delivering our client’s photos quickly and easily via an online gallery. You will have the ability to print, share and download your images as much as you want. We believe in freely sharing our work because that is what we would want if we were in your shoes! You will receive your photos within 2-3 weeks after the session! If you have a specific time constraints (like using your photos for holiday cards), make sure you schedule far enough in advance to comfortably order these + leave wiggle room in case we need to reschedule due to weather.

How many photos will I receive? How long will it take to get them?

BACK TO ALL QUESTIONS

I actually love it when our families ask us to photograph them in a location that means something special to them - whether that's a local spot or a destination elsewhere. It could be the place of your first date, your proposal, your wedding, or your go-to date night. We've traveled to over 8 states for destination engagement sessions. :) Should you opt for something more local, I will send you a list of location options to get a feel for what you like. I love trying out new locations, too! Travel of up to 30 minutes from 78744 is included.

Where will we shoot?

BACK TO ALL QUESTIONS

I’m happy to come to your house, but remember - bright natural light and neutral colors are key for good photos. This means your session might be at 1PM for the best light vs. at golden hour like a traditional outdoor session. Travel of up to 30 minutes from 78744 is included. If you love the look of “home” sessions, but your home isn’t a good fit, I can recommend some rental spaces that have a homey vibe that are available for photoshoots.

Can we shoot at our home?

BACK TO ALL QUESTIONS

If a mom will be in the photos, I recommend dressing mom first as women are usually the hardest to dress because of the number of options available to them and the need to flatter our bodies well. In a shoot without a mother-figure, whoever is the pickiest about what they where or how they look should find their outfit first. From there, I recommend dressing everyone else in coordinating (not matching) outfits in variations of the color palette represented in the “anchor outfit.” For the best look, we recommend wearing neutral colors that you like and feel comfortable in. Avoid black for children; navy is a great alternative. If you wear black as an adult, consider adding a necklace or accessory to break it up. Bright pink and red don't photograph well, but patterns with pink are fine if there are other colors too.  Dress comfortably; there's no need to dress up. Think of what you’d wear to a nice backyard party: something elevated, but comfortable that allows for movement. For women, flats work better than heels for action shots. If you prefer heels, consider bringing a second pair of shoes. Avoid hats with brims to prevent shadows on your face. If you're feeling body conscious, A-line dresses or clothing with sleeves work best; if needed, slightly baggy clothing is better than too-tight clothing.

What should we wear?

How to Prepare for Your Family Photo Session with an Austin Family Photographer

Planning a family photo session in Austin is an exciting opportunity to capture cherished moments with your loved ones against the backdrop of this vibrant city. Whether you're hoping for a natural light studio session or running around one of the area's many parks, Austin offers a variety of stunning locations for your family photos. To ensure a successful and memorable photo session, follow these expert tips to prepare for your shoot. These tips will help you create beautiful and timeless family photos that you'll treasure for years to come.

If you're planning to book an Austin family photographer, you're already on the path to creating lasting memories with the people who matter most. Whether this is your first session or your fifth, thoughtful preparation can make all the difference in how your experience feels – and how your final images turn out. Here’s everything you need to know to make your family photo session in Austin smooth, meaningful, and stress-free:

1. Choose the Right Austin Family Photographer
Start by finding a photographer whose style resonates with your family’s personality. Look through portfolios, read reviews, and make sure their approach aligns with the vibe you’re going for—whether that’s playful, candid, editorial, or classic.

2. Schedule Your Session Early
The best Austin family photographers book up quickly, especially during peak seasons. Plan ahead to secure your ideal date and time. Consider sunset times (especially for younger children with early bedtimes), and keep in mind how the season and weather might affect your photos.

3. Pick the Perfect Location
One of the perks of hiring a local Austin family photographer is their knowledge of the best photo spots in town. From nature-filled parks and greenbelts to urban backdrops and cozy at-home sessions, your location should reflect your family’s style and comfort.

4. Coordinate Outfits Thoughtfully
Start with mom’s outfit first, then coordinate the rest of the family around it. Choose a color palette and blend textures and patterns for visual interest—without going overboard. Avoid logos and loud prints that can distract from the connection in your photos.

5. Consider Professional Hair and Makeup
Getting pampered before your session can make a big difference in how you feel in front of the camera. Opt for natural, timeless styling that enhances your features and helps you feel your best.

6. Plan Around the Light
Golden hour—just after sunrise or before sunset—is the sweet spot for natural, glowing light in outdoor photos. Your photographer can help determine the best time based on your location and session goals.

7. Prep the Kids
Let your children know what to expect and keep things positive. Bring along a few familiar items—snacks, toys, or games—to help keep everyone happy and engaged throughout the session.

8. Focus on Connection, Not Perfection
The best photos often come from unplanned moments of laughter, movement, and connection. Relax, be yourselves, and trust your photographer to capture the magic.

9. Stay Open to the Unexpected
Let spontaneity lead! Whether it’s trying a new pose, a silly dance, or a sudden change in scenery, your flexibility often leads to the most genuine and memorable images.

10. Add Personal Touches
Including props or meaningful items—like a favorite book, a beloved pet, or a family heirloom—adds an extra layer of personality to your photos and makes them feel even more special.

11. Be Weather-Wise
Austin weather can be unpredictable, so it’s always good to have a backup plan. Whether that means rescheduling or shifting to an indoor location, your photographer will help guide the best next step.

12. Invest in an Album
Don’t let your favorite images live solely on a screen. Ask your photographer about creating a professionally designed album—a timeless way to preserve and relive the joy of this season of life.

13. Celebrate and Share
Once you receive your final gallery, take the time to truly enjoy it. Share your photos with friends and family, display them proudly in your home, and soak in the beauty of this chapter of your story.

Booking a family photo session with an Austin family photographer is more than just a checkbox on your to-do list—it’s a chance to press pause and celebrate the people you love most. With a little prep and the right creative partner, your session will feel just as special as the photos look.Start by finding a photographer whose style resonates with your family’s personality. Look through portfolios, read reviews, and make sure their approach aligns with the vibe you’re going for—whether that’s playful, candid, editorial, or classic.
