Holly and AJ are also wedding photographers, and my dear friends, so when AJ reached out wanting to plan something spectacular to propose to Holly, I felt the tears welling up. More than anything, AJ wanted Holly to feel loved and celebrated – but how do we get in front of the camera without arising her suspicion?! Knowing that I not only shoot weddings but also anniversaries, we conspired to do a styled anniversary shoot (turned downtown Austin proposal). Holly was quick to jump at the chance (especially with florals from a local florist/wizard, Abbie from Blumen Floral) and get some new photos of her and AJ.

After SEVEN years, AJ proposed ON their anniversary in the presence of all their family and friends. We all laughed, cried, hugged, cried again and celebrated them in true Texas style over margaritas at local Mexican joint. Can you imagine a more perfect downtown Austin proposal?! Usually for two ATX natives!

And how did these two meet? AJ said he remembers Holly from his first few weeks of ninth grade and he remembers instantly noticing her in their crowded high school halls but didn’t have the chance to meet Holly until they were both late to Algebra a year later. Holly was NOT excited about having to sit next to AJ and when AJ tried to peek at Holly’s paper during a quiz and she was NOT having it. It took months for them to get together again and their first date happened as AJ practiced his driving in a Target parking lot while Holly watched. She said, “Through all of my teenage anxieties and insecurities, the thought of AJ only made me feel calm. Usually, my crushes would put me in a legitimate panic over whether or not they liked me back. But there was a strong feeling of security from the very beginning.” They spent the rest of high school dating before they were long distance at college. The graduated as early as they could so they could be reunited in their hometown of Austin. Soon, they would have just that and they would start a wedding photography business together. What’s their next adventure? TYING THE KNOT. Excuse me while I sob uncontrollably (right, Holly?!)
