I have to say these in-home engagement photos are some of my favorite from this summer! Not to mention the guest appearance of the sweetest baby english bulldog: NIKO!!!
I had such a blast recreating a normal for Amanda and Matt: we started off with them getting ready at their Hyde Park home, followed by strolling around Red River district in downtown Austin and a drink at Cheer Up Charlies – a regular haunt for these two!
Matt and Amanda met in Austin through a mutual friend and immediately connected over their love of music. There were countless Facebook messages discussing new albums and upcoming concerts, and endless Spotify song recommendation exchanges. They were fast friends, but kept their crushes at a distance, given the relationships they were both in. Shortly after, Matt moved to Chicago and Amanda was certain she would never see him again. On New Year’s Eve 2015, Matt is in Austin visiting mutual friends, and “ends up” at the same New Year’s Eve party as Amanda (there was definitely premeditated planning in place according to Amanda).
Amanda and Matt spent the evening dancing, and when the countdown to midnight ends, Matt leans in to kiss Amanda, and she pushes him away, assuming he is still in a relationship. Matt, startled, tells her he is single and explains that is why he’s been following her around all night. They spend the rest of the night together, which turned into a weekend together. Still very much into one another, they spend the next few weeks getting to know one another through constant g-chats, texts, and nightly video chats. Amanda flies out to Chicago (in the middle of February!) for their first “official” date: a Future concert (how fitting!). Matt was back in Austin by March (just in time for the two to spend SXSW together). The rest, as they say, is history!
